Cheryl Cooks French Bread


Cheryl Cooks French Bread

1-1/2 Cup warm water

2 TBS yeast

3 TBS sugar

*Allow to bubble 

In separate bowl mix:

2 Cups warm water 

1 TBS Salt

2-3 TBS Vinegar

1/3 Cup shortening or olive oil

3 Cups flour


Add yeast mixture.  Add 3 Cups more flour.  Knead 8 minutes.  Rise 1 hour in warm oven with water.  Punch down and roll into a rectangle.  Loosely roll dough and cut into 2 or 3 sections.  Brush with beaten egg or egg whites ( this gives you a beautiful brown crust)  Let rise another 30 minutes and bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes.
